2008 BC Cattlemen's Convention Companion Activities
The contents of this page are very tentative and everything is subject to change

Every year there are folks that want to come to the convention but want nothing to do with going to the meetings with their spouse! So every year there is a companion tour of some sort put together for those people. This year looks like it could be one of the best yet.

At this point in time we can't tell you all that will be taken in on the tour, but we can tell you what Gus has thought of so far! We don't want to tell you too much, though, or all the partners will want to take the tour too! The tour will be approximately 6 hours long and will include lunch.

Lets start with the transportation ... well that depends on how many want to go on the tour. It will be either a large bus or two or more smaller buses. Either way there has already been a professional tour guide booked. Here's a little about him:

Brent Rutherford is a certified tour guide in California, Massachusetts, and Florida. He is a graduate of ITMI (International Tour Management Institute) in San Francisco. Brent has worked as a tour guide in the Canadian Rockies and in Montana for Tauck Tours. He has lived in the South Cariboo for about 30 years and has his own tour company, Ramblin Road Tours. He specializes in back road tours and gold rush history. Brent knows the South Cariboo and you will enjoy his tour!

One of the stops planned is the 83 Mile Farm Equipment Museum! Ray and Vi Young have built this historic site into a true wonder! The barn itself is an original stage stop barn built in the mid 1800's where horses on the stage coach were switched so they were fresh to pull up over the next hill (now called Begbie Summit). Not only is the barn a huge part of our history, but inside there is a super collection of horse drawn buggies, cutters, waggons, and sleighs. And that's just the start ... there are a lot of cabins and out buildings and they are all full of memorabilia. An example is the one cabin that is full of antique milking equipment - another the blacksmith shop - and then there's the building that is full of different antique tools - we could go on and on ... a definite place to stop, especially when it's BC's 150th birthday!

One of the most scenic drives in BC could be the route the tour takes next. Along the beautiful north shore of Green Lake (you'll see why it got it's name) past Canada's oldest Guest Ranch, on to Watch Lake and then possibly Horse Lake, back through 100 Mile to the 108 Historic Site. Maybe a good stop for lunch ... we'll see. There are lots of other options for the tour and we'll let you know more as Gus confirms the details. It will be a memorable Campanion Tour there's no doubt.
